Borderless Social Connections through eService-Learning

In this time of the pandemic, how can we pursue Service-Learning (SL) when our school doors are closed? How can we continue serving the community when we need to stay indoors and distance ourselves from the people? These are the questions our Service-Learning Program team in COSCA reflected on.

Our response is to open the DLSU’s virtual doors to continue with students’ learning while they pursue social engagement by adopting electronic SL or e-SL. This means that instructions and service, or both are done online. We are fortunate that many faculty members who have been teaching SL willingly adopted the online delivery of service and engaged their students to work with and for the community virtually. Students are creative with their e-SL projects like making online promotional and learning materials, infographics on a particular advocacy issue, conduct of webinars, tutorial videos, fundraising, and other activities benefitting their partner community or organization.

By opening the virtual doors, Lasallians found workable ways to continue learning and serving while in the comfort of their homes. Despite the social isolation brought about by the COVID 19 pandemic, e-SL paved the way to another form of borderless social connections.
