Lasallian Environmental Sustainability and Governance

In due recognition of the pivotal roles of environmental management and good governance as mechanisms for Poverty Eradication,  the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals have clearly indicated the need for a more responsive and action-driven multi-sectoral involvement for environment: GOAL 6 Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all; GOAL 11 Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable (coincides with Sendai Framework for Action on DRRM; GOAL 12 Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns; GOAL 13 Take urgent action to combat climate; and GOAL 14 Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

In line with these efforts of the UN, the De La Salle University being an educational institution committed to becoming: “A leading learner-centered and research University bridging faith and scholarship, attuned to a sustainable Earth, and in the service of Church and society, especially the poor and marginalized”, has decided to localize SDGs at the grassroots level through the Lasallian Environmental Sustainability and Governance (EnviSaGe).  It will build on the localization and implementation of five (5) international Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The L-EnviSaGe envisions itself as an initiative proactively contributing to the transformation of communities and its ecosystems; and to mainstream good governance towards environmental sustainability and community resilience.

In line with its vision-mission of being “A leading learner-centered research university bridging faith and scholarship, attuned to a sustainable Earth, and in the service of Church and society, especially the poor and marginalized”; DLSU shall localize these 5 SDGs at the grassroots level through the Lasallian Environmental Sustainability and Governance (EnviSaGe).   L-EnviSaGe envisions itself as an initiative proactively contributing to the transformation of communities and its ecosystems. It aims to mainstream good governance towards environmental sustainability and community resilience.

This will be implemented through the following strategies:

  • Awareness and Capacity Building of LGUs and communities
  • Collaboration with private and public sector
  • Policies and regulations; and
  • Engagement of DLSU community.
