SERVICE-LEARNING PROGRAM

ADVOCACY AND ADULT FORMATION

The Service-Learning Program (SLP) of COSCA aims to assist faculty and students in integrating social development principles and service activities in the academic programs of DLSU. Service-Learning is a credit-bearing, curriculum-based educational experience wherein students participate in activities that meet identified real human needs. The program encourages undergraduate, graduate, and international students to make use of the knowledge and learnings gained from the university for the benefit of the marginalized sectors of society.

Service-Learning involves faculty and students in various types of activities such as through direct service, indirect service, advocacy, and research.

SLP STORIES

SERVING TO LEARN,
LEARNING TO SERVE

Service-Learning students extend meaningful service to communities aligned with the course-based knowledge and skills they have learned in class. By imparting this learning, students are able to link course objectives with active social engagement and see its relevance in addressing social issues.

Among other engagements, colleges have linked service-learning to poverty alleviation, environmental protection, conservation and advocacy, disaster preparedness, educational enhancement, organizational development, and management. Service-Learning actively engages various academic disciplines such as business, liberal arts, science, engineering, computer studies, education, as well as economics and development.

GLOBAL SERVICE-LEARNING

The university continues to identify and promote social engagements and service-learning to partner universities abroad for supplementary support for the communities. DLSU, through COSCA, is an active member of the Service-Learning Asia Network (SLAN) which aims to promote the common interests and networks of student exchanges, faculty research, curriculum development and program evaluation among colleges and universities interested in Service-Learning in Asia.

The UNISERVITATE Program of the Centro Latino Americano De Aprendizaje Y Servicio Solidario (CLYASS) has also selected De La Salle University to serve as the Regional Hub for Service-Learning in Catholic Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs) in Asia and Oceania.
