GRADUATE SCHOOL OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LITERATURE

The Department of Literature Graduate School offers four degree programs: 1) Master of Arts in Language and Literature major in Literature (MALL-LIT), 2) Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing (MFACREA), 3) Master of Arts in Literary, Cultural and Performance Studies (MALCPS), and Doctor of Philosophy in Literature (PHD LITT).

MALL-LIT is designed for literary scholars and teachers at the tertiary level. Courses offered in this program are geared towards scholarship (literary and cultural studies) and the pedagogical application of theoretical principles derived from literary theory and criticism, linguistics, psychology, sociolinguistics, and other allied disciplines. On the one hand, the literature courses are designed to equip students with the necessary critical tools to examine literary and cultural texts. On the other hand, the teaching courses aim to equip teachers with the proper perspective and relevant instructional methodologies they will need in daily classroom encounters with their students.

The MFACREA program is designed to help students committed to further honing their craft and becoming productive, creative writers through a grounding in the theoretical and practical aspects of writing.

The MALCPS program aims to nurture scholars who demonstrate critical and creative thinking skills and possess adequate knowledge of literary forms and traditions and critical or theoretical concepts and perspectives crucial to studying and appreciating literature, culture, and performance.

The PHD LITT program aims to develop competent and responsible literary scholars by providing training in research and literary criticism, creative writing, and cultural studies with opportunities for sustained investigation of aspects of literature and literary history, particularly that of the Philippines, and supervision in the production of research projects that will be vital contributions to the fields of literary/cultural studies and production.
