PAMANANG BUTIL Documentary Sparks Dialogue on Agricultural Issues

The Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA), in partnership with EHEMPLO: The Lasallian Immersion Experience, hosted the screening of Pamanang Butil, a documentary highlighting the lives of farmers in Laur, Nueva Ecija last November 21, 2024. This event was part of Lasallian Mission Week and aimed to deepen empathy and understanding of the agricultural sector’s challenges in the Philippines. The film captured the lived experiences of farmers, providing a platform for them to share their stories and confront misconceptions about their profession.

The screening featured guest speakers from the KADRE Development Cooperative, including Manager Mr. Warlito Rupac and Chairman Mr. Fermin Sargento, alongside EHEMPLO student volunteers who produced the documentary: Arrows Pequera, Eliza Lumanog, and Gem Mombay. Ms. Kimberly Ching, SSFP Coordinator, opened the event, which included a heartfelt discussion about farmers’ struggles, such as resource access, market inequities, and the power of collective action. Attendees, including students and staff, engaged in a roundtable dialogue, reflecting on ways to drive social change and advocate for the agricultural community.

COSCA Director Mr. Juanito Alcazar concluded the event by emphasizing the need for solidarity with Filipino farmers. He invited participants to carry forward the legacy of “BUTIL” as a symbol of hope and progress. Attendees were encouraged to join future initiatives like EHEMPLO 2025 to support social justice and environmental stewardship actively.
