ABOUT US

Brief History

The need for a holistic and integrated spiritual formation program remains as vital as ever, especially one that proclaims the good news of salvation and addresses the unique needs of modern, discerning young individuals. Brother John Johnston, FSC, and his Council highlight the importance of such a program, emphasizing that “a comprehensive pastoral approach to campus ministry is essential to nurture the spiritual life of the school… This cannot be achieved by simply offering mandatory religion classes” (1997).

Similarly, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) underscores this need in their Catechism for Filipino Catholics (1997). They affirm that faith engages every aspect of our being—our minds (through belief), our actions (through commitment), and our hearts (through trust). Christian faith, as expressed through doctrine (the Creed), morality (the Commandments), and worship (the sacraments), is not fragmented but a cohesive way of life. It integrates knowledge, will, and spirit, sustained by a community of fellow disciples of Christ.

In response to this call, this institution seeks to develop a spiritual formation program that meets the needs of students, administrators, faculty, and staff across all levels. Through careful assessment, planning, and the design of a new model, we aim to further the Church’s mission of evangelization while embodying the Lasallian mission of touching hearts.

Thus, in the 2006-2007 school year, the Lasallian Mission Office (LSMO) was officially established to carry forward this mission.

Our Core Values

There are three constitutive elements (Core Values) that guide the office in providing Lasallian formation and social engagement:

Spirit of Faith (religio) enables Lasallian to discover God’s presence daily.

Zeal (mores) enables Lasallian to discover one’s passion and total gift for the sake of the mission expressed in such qualities as gratuity and generosity, creativity and fortitude, compassion and commitment.

Communion in Mission (cultura) enables Lasallian to discover a culture/ the value of solidarity and collaboration that comes from sharing in one vision, one spirit, one mission.

Programs and Services

The Lasallian Mission Office (LMO) in the Laguna Campus is responsible for the programs and activities for the educators, students, staff, partners, and other stakeholders in ensuring that the core traditions and principles remain at the forefront of the educational experience and social transformation.

Social Engagement & Development

The LMO seeks to bring forth the pastoral work of Christ and foster sincere appreciation for the giftedness of the self and others as well as the social responsibility expressed in action on behalf of the disadvantaged.

The LMO’s Social Action Unit (SAU) at DLSU Laguna Campus encompasses a range of activities, programs, and services aimed at addressing the needs of underprivileged communities and fostering social responsibility within the DLSU Laguna Campus community.

  1. Lasallian Instructional Gift to Adopted Pupils (LINGAP Program) – a long-term social action program that provides scholarships to deserving graduating students from partner public elementary schools.
  2. Service-Learning Program – is a discipline-based experiential form of education where students share their learnings through active engagement with the poor and marginalized communities. As part of Service-Learning institutionalization, DLSU incorporates service-learning in all its academic programs, conducts training and fora, links with local and international institutions and forms systems and structures supporting its implementation.
  3. Community Organizing, Partnerships, and External Linkages (COPE) – The Social Development work of the Lasallian Mission aims to provide partner communities and organizations for social engagements and support their proper organization and development. Partner communities should not be seen as laboratories but as collaborators in shaping the person of a Lasallian, especially a student. They are partners in molding students into social catalysts for transformation and addressing marginalized issues. Strengthening community ties and linkages benefits both community partners and Lasallian community members, especially students.
  4. Societal Issue Awareness and Advocacy – Lasallians are expected to live out the Communion in Mission, engaging in social engagement to prevent and eradicate society’s structural sufferings through advocacies on justice, peace, good governance, out-of-school youth, and integrity of creation. Advocacy includes fora, symposia, policy lobbying, and social mobilization.
  5. Lasallian Social Engagement Reliable Volunteers (L-SERVO) – a program that encourages Senior High School and College Lasallians students to participate in Lasallian Mission activities through volunteerism. The program aims to deepen students’ spiritual dimension of serving others, respect, and kindness through various formations. By participating in the Lasallian Mission, students can commit to acts of kindness and imbibe a sense of volunteerism in their being as true Lasallians.
  6. iSERVEis a community of adult volunteers in the DLSU Laguna Campus working under the guidance of the Lasallian Mission Office, that fosters the spirit of volunteerism to contribute to building a stronger and more active Lasallian community.
  7. Lingkod Lasalyano Program – is an institutional initiative for the adult/professional members of the Lasallian community for their direct service to the targeted partner community, organization, center, and marginalized sector of the society or community. The program may be integrated with Balay Solomon’s initiatives dubbed Bayanihan ng Tahanang Solomon (BTS).
  8. Alay ng mga Lasalyano sa Komunidad (ALAY KO) Program – a modified version of the existing Alay Kapwa Program, promotes generosity among the Lasallian community by encouraging voluntary donations of any amount. It demonstrates that even small acts of kindness, as long as they come from the heart, can significantly impact others’ lives

Faith Formation

This program is designed to deepen understanding of St. John Baptist De La Salle by exploring his teachings, life, and mission. It provides comprehensive training and formation to cultivate a shared understanding of the Lasallian identity and mission.

Through spiritual activities grounded in the Gospel and core Lasallian principles, the LMO aims to invigorate the Lasallian spirit at DLSU. We aim to nurture resilient individuals within the community, guiding them to uphold their values and act justly through these enriching spiritual experiences. The program features a variety of initiatives, including conversations on St. La Salle’s life and Lasallian formation sessions for faculty and staff.

Additionally, the LMO organizes recollections, retreats, and spiritual formation for the DLSU Laguna Campus community, addressing contemporary youth issues and fostering a sense of vocation and commitment.

Student Formation Programs:

  1. Return to Galilee Program – The “Return to Galilee” is a formation program at the Lasallian Mission Office of DLSU Laguna for the K-10 of the Integrated School. The formation sessions (recollections) invite deeper reflection on our experiences during challenging times. It helps participants process their experiences, rediscover God’s presence in their lives, and strengthen their faith.
The program aims to inspire spiritual growth, especially among students, encouraging them to apply the values they’ve learned. It motivates them to shift from self-focus to selflessness, helping others in need. The goal is to foster a spirit of service driven by love for God, not personal recognition or fame.
  2. HESED Liturgical Ministry – This  ministry aims to form young Lasallians to deepen their love and understanding of the Holy Eucharist. It encourages them to actively serve at Mass through various roles, such as altar servers, lectors, and choir members. Through this ministry, students grow in faith, develop a spirit of service, and experience the joy of worshiping God as a community.
  3. Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation – These are offered here at DLSU Laguna to support the spiritual and personal growth of young Lasallians. Holy Communion nurtures their relationship with Christ by receiving Him in the Eucharist, while Confirmation strengthens them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, empowering them to live out their faith. These sacraments are essential in forming well-rounded individuals, helping students grow closer to God and live with purpose, guided by faith and values.
  4. 5. LASARE Programs – The Lasallian Recollection and Action or LASARE program is a Lasallian recollection and retreat program for college students that aims to deepen the spiritual life of participants through moments of silence, prayer, reflection and sharing.  While the program is anchored on the Lasallian heritage, values and Christian spirituality, it is also open to different faith traditions.

    LASARE 2 (Pagyabong) – whole-day on-campus recollection
    LASARE 3 (Pag-ani) – overnight off-campus retreat

Adult Formation Programs

Forming employees or lay partners in the Lasallian school community is very important since they are at the frontline of providing a “human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor” through teaching and accompaniment.  Therefore, employees are expected to live out the Lasallian values in their ministries.  This can be achieved through different formative experiences and activities that will enable them “to acquire the vision, values, attitudes and practices that support collaboration with God’s creative and redemptive action in the world” (Foundational Principles of Lasallian Education). The different formation programs teach the Lasallian story and life of the Founder, foster among the employees the Lasallian core values, accompany them to the living out of the Lasallian spirituality and invite them to live a life of service for others.

  1. Induction Programs – These are Lasallian formation programs for new employees based on the different significant places and events in the life of the Founder and the Institute:.

Through the Eucharist, students encounter Christ, receive spiritual nourishment, and strengthen their sense of community. These celebrations foster a deeper connection with God, guiding students to live with faith and purpose daily.Devotions – Devotional activities for the Blessed Mother and St. John Baptist de La Salle play a key role in forming every Lasallian student. Honoring Mary fosters trust in her loving intercession, while devotion to St. La Salle inspires students to follow his example of faith, service, and commitment to others. These practices nurture spiritual growth, encourage prayer, and strengthen values rooted in compassion and humility.
