KAMALAYAN Forum Highlights the Importance of the 2025 Elections for Democracy and National Development
De La Salle University (DLSU) successfully hosted the KAMALAYAN: Kapihan ng Malalayang Lasalyano on September 25, 2024, at The Verdure, Henry Sy Hall. Organized by the Committee on National Issues and Concerns (CoNIC) and the Lasallian Justice and Peace Committee (LJPC), the forum aimed to promote democracy, human rights, and active participation in the 2025 midterm elections. Attended by 187 students, faculty, and staff, the event was part of the university’s celebration of Lasallian Human Rights, Democracy, and Peace Month.
The event started with the welcoming remarks delivered by Dr. Jazmin Llana. The roundtable discussion featured key speakers, including Ms. Alexa Yadao from LENTE, Dr. Wilson Chua of PPCRV, and Prof. Telibert Laoc from DLSU’s Department of Political Science and Developmental Studies. They provided insights on current political issues and the role of democratic participation in national development. The interactive session saw enthusiastic participation from students, with discussions focusing on the importance of responsible voting and its impact on the country’s progress.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Mr. James Laxa, who encouraged attendees to be responsible voters in the upcoming elections. The forum also featured performances from DLSU’s Culture and Arts Office, adding to the success of the gathering.
