DLSU hosts Service-Learning Sharing Session with partner institutions

De La Salle University (DLSU) held the Service-Learning Sharing Session on May 15, 2024, bringing together institutions from the Philippines and Hong Kong to exchange best practices and experiences for integrating service-learning into their curricula.

The event featured speakers from DLSU’s Service-Learning Program, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s Service-Learning and Leadership Office (SLLO), and Uniservitate Asia and Oceania Regional Hub.

Mr. Niku Vicente, Service-Learning Program Coordinator at DLSU COSCA, presented DLSU’s unique approach to Service-Learning. Mr. Jimi Caldea, DLSU Uniservitate Asia & Oceania Regional Hub Coordinator, provided an overview of the Uniservitate programme, an international initiative promoting service-learning in Catholic Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs) under the Centro Latinoamericano de Aprendizaje y Servicio Solidario (CLAYSS).

Dr. Stephen Chan, Founding Head of the SLLO at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, shared insights into their service-learning experiences. Dr. Grace Ngai, Head of SLLO, then joined him for a Q&A session with participants. The invited sharers provided valuable input to the questions of participants, which included topics on evaluation and assessments, international partnerships, and sustainable implementation of service-learning projects.

The event drew faculty members and service-learning practitioners from prominent Philippine universities, including University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo de Manila University, Adamson University, De La Salle Lipa, and Philippine Normal University.
