Event: First iCon Conversation with Dr. Pilar Ramos-Jimenez

Date, Time and Venue: March 7, 2018, 2:30-4:00 PM, Bro. Andrew Gonzalez 20/F Multipurpose Room

South–South Cooperation (SSC) is a phrase used to describe the sharing of resources, technology, and information between developing countries, often referred to as countries of the global South, like Indonesia and the Philippines. The Philippines-Indonesia SSC Program was initiated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)-Indonesia and UNFPA-Philippines to share and apply good practices in the areas of population, family planning and reproductive health, and gender mainstreaming. Supported by the Commission on Population (POPCOM) of the Philippines, the Department of Health of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the National Population and Family Planning Board of Indonesia, and the Ministries of Health and Religious Affairs of Indonesia, the SSC has brought many positive effects and challenges as well as vital lessons in health, especially in family planning and reproductive health, which will be discussed in this iCon conversation. Joining the conversation are Dr. Juan Antonio Perez III, POPCOM Executive Director, and Dr. Vicente Jurlano, UNFPA-Philippines National Program Officer.

iCon conversations are interactive events where University Fellows converge to converse and connect with members of the academic community and the Lasallian family. An iCon conversation begins with a short, light-and-easy talk, followed by an enriching discussion, over coffee, between the iCon speaker(s) and the members of the audience, who are expected to come from various disciplines. To keep the discussion manageable, the audience will be capped at 30 participants. Pre-register by emailing the SUF assistant, Ms. Alma Sabulao, at [email protected].

Generation Zers (born after 1995) are said to be the first true digital natives, and several studies suggest that they have certain values, attitudes, and behaviors that are markedly different from those of their older siblings, the Millennials. In this Forum, after a brief Gen Z Situationer, a Panel of Provocateurs will ask questions that will problematize the education of Gen Z, after which anyone in the audience and on stage may share insights, ask further questions, or provide tentative answers, whether from experience or research.

The objective of the Forum is to help the participants determine the most crucial questions that need immediate answers with regard to the education of Gen Z, and to discuss initial answers to some of these crucial questions.
