Laurenzo D. Alba, PhD

Laurenzo D. Alba acquired his degree in Biochemistry in DLSU-Manila in 2009, with particular interest in the synthesis of carbon nanoparticles. Then, he took his master’s degree in biology from DLSU in 2014, this time focusing on the encapsulation of an anticancer drug in micelles. He was a DLSU Star Scholar for both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He then pursued his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry through the DLSU – Osaka University Double Degree program under the supervision of Prof. Yasuhiro Funahashi. His dissertation focused on the synthesis and characterization of sugar-containing noble metal complexes with biological applications such as anticancer or enzyme mimicry. He received the JASSO and Matsuda Yosahichi Memorial Scholarships to support his doctoral degree, which he successfully completed in 2021. He went back to teach in DLSU – Manila in 2021 and is currently working as associate professor while doing periodic research work with Osaka University.
