MARK CHRISTIAN FELIPE R. REDILLAS, PhD

Dr. Mark Christian Felipe R. Redillas is an Associate Professor of Biology At De La Salle University-Manila. He earned his PhD in Biological Science and MS in Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology in Myongji University, South Korea. He received his BS in Biology major in Microbiology in University of the Philippines- Los Baños. He is currently a Board Member of the Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines (BIOTA Philippines) and a member of the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Ing. Dr. Redillas has been involved in the study and development of climate-resilient rice with Prof. Ju-Kon Kim from Seoul National University-Pyeongchang Campus. He has published several articles on transgenic rice possessing properties advantageous under drought conditions through genetic engineering such as gene overexpression, silencing, and CRISPR-based approach. Recently, Dr. Redillas published his study on improving the nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of rice through the overexpression of a ureide permease protein that led to the accumulation of allantoin- a metabolite important in N storage and metabolism. He also published an article on the development of a N-molecular sensor through the use of a luciferase-reporter system in transgenic rice by utilizing promoters of N-responsive genes. At present, Dr. Redillas is pursuing his work on crop biotechnology while in De La Salle University.
