LLEWELYN S. MORON, PhD

Dr. Llewelyn S. Moron is a faculty member of the Department of Biology, De La Salle University, Manila. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Master of Science major in Microbiology from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. She finished her Doctor of Philosophy in Biology in De La Salle University (2020) as a DOST-ASTHRDP scholar. As a DOST scholar, she was granted a research fund to conduct her research at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom to work on genomes of azole-resistant yeasts, underlying mechanisms of azole resistance and virulence, and other potential mechanisms of resistance such as overexpression of the efflux pumps CDR1, CDR2, and MDR1. Likewise, Dr. Moron studies the in vitro pathogenicity of clinical microorganisms and in vivo host-pathogen interactions using the greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella) as an infection in vivo host model. Her other research interest is on the isolation and purification of endophytic fungi as potential sources of bioactive metabolites. She is currently a member of several professional organizations such as Mycological Society of the Philippines, Philippine Society Microbiology, Inc., American Society of Microbiology, and Microbiology Society.
