FRANCES C. RECUENCO, DVM, PhD

Dr. Recuenco received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of the Philippines College of Veterinary Medicine (UP-CVM). She finished her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Veterinary Medicine from The University of Tokyo in Tokyo, Japan. For her PhD studies, she focused on potential antimalarial drugs such as carrageenans that are major products from the Philippines. For her postdoctoral fellowship in Hokkaido University she was involved in investigating the potential application of carrageenans in radiation therapy for breast cancer. Dr. Recuenco is also an active collaborator in the studies on cryptosporidiosis and Cryptosporidium spp. and other protozoan parasites in bats, which is a joint project between Japanese universities including The University of Tokyo, Tohoku University and the University of the Philippines Museum of Natural History.
