Isang Mapanuring Paghahambing sa mga Teorya at Praxis ng Pampananampalatayang Inkulturasyon nina Anscar Chupungco At Ed Lapiz / A Comparative Study on the Theory and Praxis of Religious Inculturation of Anscar Chupungco and Ed Lapiz

Abstrak
Sina Anscar Chupungco, OSB, at Ed Lapiz ay dalawa sa mga pinakamarubdob na tagapagtaguyod ng inkulturalismo sa mundo ng pananampalataya sa Pilipinas. Si Chupungco ay isang Benediktinong monghe, kilala bilang dalubhasa sa liturhiya, at tagapagtatag ng Paul VI Institute of Liturgy at kauna-unahang Pilipinong rector sa Pontifical Atheneum of S. Anselm sa Roma; habang si Lapiz naman ay ang punong pastor at tagapagtatag ng Day by Day Christian Ministries at ng Filipiniana Dance Troupe ng Rural High School, Pamantasan ng Pilipinas Los Baños. Ipinaghahambing ng papel ito ang teorya at praxis ng dalawang Pilipinong intelektuwal batay sa limang puntos: 1) motibasyon at mga batis, 2) teoretikal na diskurso, 3) liturhikal na inobasyon, 4) lawak at lalim ng paggamit ng kulturang Pilipino bilang pundasyon ng inkulturasyon, 5) paraan ng pagpalaganap ng kanilang teorya at praxis, at kasalukuyang estado ng kanilang naging kontribusyon. Nakabatay ang paghahambing na ito sa mga teorya at praxis nina Chupungco at Lapiz sa teoryang Symbolic Interactionism Theory ni George Herbert Mead. Sa pamamagitan ng nabanggit na teorya, makikita ang pagpapaliwanag ng social organization at behavior, ang mga paniniwala na nagbibigay ng kasiyahan (satisfaction) sa tao at sa mga pangangailangan nito sa usapin ng mga senyas at simbolo sa kanilang pang-araw-araw na buhay at kultura. Ibig sabihin, sa pamamagitan ng isang mapanuring paghahambing, lalawak at lalalim ang ating kaalaman tungkol sa inkulturalismo nina Chupungco at Lapiz na mag-aambag naman tungo sa ating kaalaman tungkol sa inkulturalismo sa mundo ng pananampalataya sa Pilipinas.

Anscar Chupungco, OSB, and Ed Lapiz are two advocates of inculturation in the world of faith in the Philippines. Chupungco is a Benedictine monk, a well-known expert in liturgy, founder of Paul VI Institute of Liturgy, and the first Filipino rector of the Pontifical Atheneum of S. Anselm in Rome; while Lapiz is the chief pastor and founder of Day By Day Christian staintries and the Filipiniana Dance troupe of Rural High School, in the University of the Philippines-Los Banos. This paper compares the theory and praxis of two Filipino intellectuals based on five points: 1) motivation and approaches, 2) theoretical discourse, 3) liturgical innovation, 4) use of Filipino culture as foundation of inculturation, 5) methods of propagating their theory and praxis, and current state of their contribution. This comparison is based on a principle of George Herbert Mead’s Symbolic Interactionism. Through this lens, it will explain the social organization and behavior of the subject, their motivation and beliefs that give satisfaction to people, and the need of signs and symbols in their day-to-day existence, and to our culture as well. That means, through a sophisticated comparison, we will expand and deepen our knowledge of Chupungco and Lapiz’ contribution on inculturation in the world of faith in the Philippines.
