SDRC Team Conducts Qualitative Research Seminar at University of Makati, Pays Courtesy Call on DLSU-Laguna Vice President

Faculty, researchers, and undergraduate students representing all eleven of the University of Makati’s colleges, and its Institutes of Pharmacy, Imaging Health Science, Center for Community Extension and Development, and Higher School ng UMak, were in attendance during the “Qualitative It Is! A Starting Point in Doing Qualitative Research” seminar conducted on September 12, 2023 at the UMak campus. The presentation was intended to familiarize novice researchers with the basics of qualitative research, including methods and practices used and data collection techniques.

The seminar opened with Department of Sociology and Behavioral Sciences faculty member and SDRC research associate Dr. Zaldy Collado sharing his expertise in “Establishing Quality Standards in Qualitative Research,” followed by DSBS professor and former SDRC Director Dr. Melvin Jabar introducing the group to “Qualitative Data Analysis and the Use of NVivo,” a helpful computer software program. They were joined during the visit by new SDRC Director Dr. Homer Yabut, who gave the closing remarks to conclude the event.

From the University of Makati, the group proceeded to the DLSU Laguna Campus where they paid a courtesy call on Vice President Dr. Jonathan Dungca, with whom they discussed plans for the SDRC satellite office/lab space currently located at the Richard L. Lee Engineering and Technology Block.
