DLSU Receives first International Patent for IBEHT’s AGAPAY Project

De La Salle University recently received its first international patent "Device for Upper Limb Rehabilitation", part of IBEHT's AGAPAY project. The patent application was filed in Singapore last year and the approval was received by the DLSU Intellectual Property Office and DLSU Technology and Innovation Office last January 11. The project is funded by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) and in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Manila - Philippine General Hospital. The project is led by Prof. Nilo T. Bugtai, Ph.D., the Founding Director of DLSU-IBEHT and a Full Professor of DMEM. The invention is a robotic exoskeleton meant to give post-stroke and injured patients a cost-effective and high-performance rehabilitation system with a real-time biofeedback system and a user-friendly graphical interface.

The inventors of the patent are fellow faculty researchers: Prof. Nilo T. Bugtai, PhD, Dr. Jade Dungao, Dr. Rennan Baldovino, and Engr. Alexander Abad. Collaborators from the medical field: Dr. Jose Alvin Mojica, Dr. Christopher Constantino, and Dr. Jeremy Flordelis. Lead researchers and Associate Researchers. Paul Dominick Baniqued, Aira Patrice Ong, Engr. Voltaire Dupo, Engr. Michael Manguerra, Winny Paredes, Maria Annyssa Perez, Carlos Matthew Cases, Eldrich Bong Velencerina, and Hanz Emmanuel Timbre.
