Research Interests
Natural Compounds and Green Chemistry
Natural compounds from Philippine endemic sources are extracted through traditional and new techniques and explored towards the development of neutraceuticals, new sources for novel materials, environmental applications, and carbon sequestration
Material Processes and Food Chemistry
The processes in tuning materials are applied in food for studies in developing functional foods, fortification, vitamin delivery, and nutrition. It also explores various polysaccharides and their functional modifications.
Small Molecules and Polymers
Simple molecules are explored for the synthesis of new compounds, macromolecules and ionic liquids. Natural biopolymers are modified through synthesis and in composite with other materials by tuning the properties for enhanced mechanical, physical, electrostatic, optical, electrochemical, molecular recognition, drug delivery, and chemical properties.
Organic Materials and Metals
The interface between organic compounds and metals are explored for the synthesis of organometallic complexes for applications in catalysis, for the design of new polymeric/composite materials, for drug delivery and for investigations in environmental factors.
Nanomaterials and Electro-mechano-enviro-bio-chemistry
Nanomaterials from metal salts or biopolymers are synthesized and explored in the interface with catalysis, electrochemistry, sensing, remediation, and antimicrobials.
Materials and Energy Conversion
The group explores the synthesis and preparation of material systems that can be incorporated as the interface in solar cell and sensing assemblies in order to induce photovoltage, supercapacitor, and conductivity. Biopolymer composites are also fabricated for the electrochemical application.
