DLSU offers quality programs, especially Doctoral programs, at the shortest time possible for students. Moreover, the K-12 program of the government as well as the history subjects in the college level require more than just knowledge of particular events in Philippine History but skills and ability to handle primary sources. The courses offered by the program are geared towards understanding primary and secondary documents in a proper perspective which lead to the reconstruction of events in Philippine History. The doctoral program in history is primarily a research program where graduate students are required to formally present their research output to the academic community. The Doctor of Philosophy in History (Ph.D. in History by Research) is an advanced Ph.D. program for candidates with demonstrated capacity for advanced historical research. The program encourages dissertations in regional and comparative history.
