SDRC Team Conducts Training on Qualitative Research Concepts for DSWD RMEOs

The latest in SDRC’s Capacity Building Training Series was conducted for Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officers (RMEOs) and select National Program Management (NPM) staff of the Department of Social Welfare and Development from across the regions. Held in Abucay, Tacloban from October 9 to 13, 2023, the four-day training was conducted to help the MEOs and program management staff improve their skill sets in receiving and handling qualitative data.

During the training, the SDRC team led by Center Director Dr. Homer J. Yabut, and former Director Dr. Melvin A. Jabar, and Dr. Zaldy C. Collado of the Department of Sociology and Behavioral Sciences, discussed the basics of the research process, the research method in the social sciences, the principles of and steps in qualitative data analysis, and the use of software— particularly NVIVO—for qualitative data analysis.

The training was sponsored by the Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the DSWD’s Policy Development and Planning Bureau, with particular focus on how to mine and analyze evidence from existing data involving the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) by identifying patterns and trends and making possible data interpretations.
