The 2018 National Migration Survey (2018 NMS) was the first nationwide survey on migration in the Philippines funded by the government jointly implemented by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the University of the Philippines Population Institute (UPPI). The survey was designed to provide baseline information on internal and international migration of Filipinos with an emphasis on (1) major migration streams; (2) types of migration and characteristics of the migrants; (3) levels, patterns, and processes of migration; and (4) the factors that are associated with the levels, patterns and processes of internal and international migration. Through the present project, further study will be conducted on the 2018 NMS results to gain an in-depth view of the underlying factors affecting migration in the Philippines, highlighting the demographic characteristics of migrants with technical guidance from POPCOM’s Policy Analysis and Development Division (PADD).
