Development, Pre-Test and Pilot Testing of Remote Counseling Program for OSAEC Victims/Survivors (Phase 2)

Project Director: Maria Caridad H. Tarroja
Funding Agency: The Asia Foundation

Phase 1 of the “Development and Pilot Testing of Remote Counseling Protocols for OSAEC Survivors and Victims” project involved the development of the protocol based on relevant literature and key informant interviews.  Findings in Phase 1 of the study indicated that delivering remote counseling services to OSAEC survivors needs to consider the following aspects: telehealth (also referred to as telemental health, telepsychology, and remote counseling) best practices, the unique experience of OSAEC survivors, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The six-step method identified by Shore and Manson (2005) in setting up telepsychiatry services includes (1) needs identification, (2) infrastructure survey, (3) partnership organization, (4) structure configuration (protocols), (5) pilot implementation, and (6) solidification.  Steps 1 and 2 were completed in Phase 1, and Steps 3 to 6 will be implemented in Phase 2, which aims to study the feasibility and application of remote counseling for OSAEC victims/survivors and involves pilot testing the remote counseling protocol.  Specifically, the project aims to answer the following questions: What factors facilitate accessing and utilizing the remote counseling protocol?; 2) What are the challenges experienced by various stakeholders in accessing and utilizing the remote counseling protocol?; and 3) How does remote counseling help the OSAEC victims/survivors?
