Dr. Pilar Ramos Jimenez is a Scientist in Residence at De La Salle University. She obtained her Ph.D. in Philippine Studies at the University of the Philippines-Diliman and her M.S. in Sociology from the Asian Social Institute. She taught with the Behavioral Sciences Department of the DLSU College of Liberal Arts for over three decades, and oversaw the establishment of its Health Social Science Graduate Program. Prior to working at DLSU, she was the Philippine Social Science Council’s Program Coordinator and its Research Network Coordinator. She also headed the Ateneo de Davao University’s Social Science Division, and started AdDU’s Social Research Office (now called the Social Research Training and Development Center). After retiring from DLSU, she served as Program Officer for Sexuality and Reproductive Health (SRH) at The Ford Foundation Jakarta Field Office. Prior to her return to DLSU she was a consultant of the South-South Cooperation (SSC) Program of the UNFPA Indonesia and Philippine Country Offices, of the Commission on Population, and of Indonesia’s National Family Planning Development Board.  At SDRC, she pioneered in the area of sexual and reproductive health research, training and networking in the 1990s. She headed a number of projects at the Center, including “The Integration of Domestic Violence in the Nursing Curriculum: Effects of the Use of Teachers’ Guides and Student Learning Modules on the Faculty and Students of Selected Nursing Colleges in the Philippines,” “Forging Partnerships in Advocacy for Family Planning: The Social Acceptance Project (TSAP) Stories in the Field,” “Young Men’s Sexuality in the Philippines,” “Towards the Integration of Domestic/Family Violence Issues in the Curricula of Nursing in Siliman University, Cebu Doctor’s College of Medicine, and the Zamboanga Medical School Foundation, Inc.,” “The Asia Pacific Network of the International Forum for Sciences in Health,” “Social Science and Immunization Research Project,” “Social and Cultural Context of Reproductive Tract Infections in the Philippines,” “Asia-Pacific Working Group in Gender, Sexuality and Reproductive Health and Fora in the Teaching of Health Social Sciences,” “Support for Graduate Health Social Science Training and a Task Force on Social Science and Reproductive Health,” “Assessment of Social Policy Development in Asia: Issues, Priorities and Methodologies,” “Giving the Poor a Short Lease: The Self-Employment Assistance Program in the Philippines,” and “The Rural Poor in Leyte: A Social and Institutional Profile”; was co-director with Dr. Trinidad Osteria on the study “Community Participation on the Provision of Basic Health Services in a Tribal Community in the Philippines”; and was co-director with Dr. Ma. Elena Chiong-Javier on the studies “Development of Course Design and the Preparation and Printing of Course Modules for a Regional Training on Malaria Operational Research,” “Social Benefits and Costs: People’s Perceptions of the U.S. Bases in the Philippines,” “Health and Nutritional Problems and the Utilization of Health Services: The Situation among Preschoolers in Depressed Metro Manila Communities,” and “Economic Transactions in the Uplands: The Sale of Banana and Gold between the Iraya and the Tagalog.” Her areas of specialization are in gender, sexual and reproductive health, and health social science.
