Dr. Marlon de Luna Era is an associate professor of the Department of Behavioral Sciences at DLSU-Manila and an SDRC research fellow. He obtained his Ph.D. in Development Studies from DLSU, his M.S. in Human Settlements Development at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, and his B.A. in Sociology from the University of the East. His areas of specialization are in urban planning, environmental management, indigenous peoples and indigenous knowledge systems, gender and development, program development, and local governance. At SDRC, he is project director of the study “Climate Change, Disaster Risk and Waste Management in the Urban and Rural Coastal Communities in the Philippines,” recently headed the study “Social and Ecological Vulnerability of Coastal Communities in the Philippines” and was country coordinator and project director of “Capacity Building in Asia for Resilience EducaTion (CABARET).” He has also been project team leader of the studies “Developing Competencies of Middle Level Health Workers and Maximizing Their Roles in Task-Sharing in the Philippines,” “Documentation of the Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Governance Experiences in the Philippines,” and “Community-Based Forest Management Project in the Philippines: The Case of Capoocan, Leyte.” Dr. Era is country correspondent of the International Association for Community Development, President of the Local Governance Training and Research Institution-Philippine Network, and Executive Vice President of the Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines.
