Program Overview

In line with the goal of De La Salle University to develop professional competence to meet the needs of the country, the Department of English and Applied Linguistics (DEAL) offers the degree program Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, which has been in operation since the first trimester of SY 1995-1996.

The program is designed specifically for teachers of language, linguistics, and related fields. It provides a balance between theory and practice through a program of studies combining descriptive linguistics, English and Filipino language, pedagogy, and the hyphenated disciplines of linguistics. Research and independent study are emphasized. The understanding of issues as well as creative solutions to problems is stressed. To provide solid training in research and further in-depth knowledge in Applied Linguistics, the program features intensive readings and research seminars as advanced courses.
