GCOE teams win in national competitions

IExcel: Quiz Bee Competition


Students from DLSU Gokongwei College of Engineering (GCOE) emerged as champions, winning 1st Place in the IExcel: Quiz Bee Competition during IEshikawa 20, organized by the University of the Philippines Circle of Industrial Engineering Majors last February 28.

Members of the winning team were Cassidy Kyler Tan, Gabriel Cheo Carambas, Jared Earl Leyson, Chun Yang Shi, and Megan Sio. Dr. Ezekiel Bernardo served as their coach.

IEshikawa is an annual nationwide Industrial Engineering event that gathers IE students from across the Philippines for competitions, workshops, and industry engagements. 

The IExcel: Quiz Bee Competition serves as a platform for Industrial Engineering students to showcase their mastery of core IE concepts in a fast-paced and strategic format, incorporating a unique betting system that tests both knowledge and decision-making skills.

In its 20th installment, themed “ATRIA: The Industrial Pulse of Systems,” the event highlighted the vital role of Industrial Engineering in strengthening healthcare systems through data-driven decision-making, process optimization, and systems improvement.

Engineering Congress 2026 Executives’ Challenge XXI

A team of students from GCOE won the top prize in the Executives’ Challenge XXI, one of the highlights of Engineering Congress 2026 held last March 1 at the Dante B. de Padua Hall, University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB).

The Executives’ Challenge XXI is a national intercollegiate engineering quiz contest spearheaded by the Civil Engineering Executive Organization of UPLB. Fifty teams participated from 28 colleges and universities across the country, testing their knowledge in statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, mathematical methods, engineering graphics, and materials science.

Members of the DLSU team were Jan Vincent  Simbol, Jan Joshua Cruz, Tom Kiersten Alipio, and Eugene Dela Cruz. They were accompanied by Dr. Raymond Albert Ng, full-time faculty member of the Department of Civil Engineering.
