Synopsis
Net-zero emissions pledges in many countries will result in an increasingly carbon-constrained global business environment in the near future. Philippine firms that are export-oriented, or whose business activities are inherently international, will have to contend with the pressure to reduce the carbon footprint of their products and services.
This seminar is designed to provide a concise introduction to climate change mitigation and its implications for 21stcentury business. Topics covered include:
- Climate change mitigation, net zero commitments, and what they mean for industry
- Carbon footprint: History, Definitions, and Current Trends
- Calculating Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
- Planning industrial decarbonization
- Future outlook
The seminar is intended for corporate sustainability officers, as well as other professionals who may be involved in the decarbonization of corporate supply chains and operations. It will be delivered by the Philippines’ leading experts in carbon management, carbon footprint analysis, and life cycle assessment.

Getting published in top-tier journals is now a prerequisite for successful academic careers. Even with the proliferation of publication opportunities, the global stage remains highly competitive due to rising productivity and impact norms across all fields. Chemical engineering is not exempt from this trend.
This seminar is designed to provide an editor’s perspective of the scientific publication process to guide prospective contributors to optimize their results. Topics covered include:
• The global “big picture”
• Preparing submissions to be published in top-tier journals
• Navigating the peer review process
• Maximizing scientific impact
• Promoting your work using social media
The seminar is intended for faculty members and students doing research in chemical engineering and allied disciplines. It will be delivered by an expert panel consisting editors of major journals.

Prof. Raymond Girard R. Tan – Distinguished Full Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Vice-President for Research and Innovation of De La Salle University, author of the book “Process Integration Approaches to Planning Carbon Management Networks,” and the only Filipino in the Reuters list of the world’s 1000 Most Influential Climate Scientists.
Prof. Kathleen B. Aviso – Full Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Dean of the Gokongwei College of Engineering of De La Salle University, Executive Editor of Elsevier’s Journal of Cleaner Production, and author of over 200 scientific papers on green engineering.
