Advent Gift-giving Held in Villa Maria, Porac
Sunny weather marked SDRC’s December 16 gift-giving outreach program with the Aeta community in Villa Maria, Porac. The happy occasion opened with games led by research associate Dr. Zaldy Collado and new core staff member Maria Margareth Geluz for the children, who were later given loot bags including books and t-shirts. Grocery bags were also distributed among the families. Around 50 children and 100 families were able to participate in the activity, guided by community representatives Mischell Babiera of the Villa Maria Elementary School and Claudette Pusung of the Villa Maria Integrated School.
SDRC Director Dr. Homer Yabut and core staff members were joined by research fellows Dr. Roberto Javier, Jr. and Dr. Crisanto Regadio, Jr. and Vice President for Research and Innovation executive officer Liza Pajo during the activity, conducted in a community the Center first visited in March 2015 in connection with the study “Reclaiming Filipino Indigenous Culture through Teaching and Learning.”
