RMCA – Risk Management

Approved by the University President in May 2025, the University Risk Management Program provides a framework for identifying, assessing, and managing risks that could affect the University’s mission, operations, and priorities.

The program helps the University stay organized, prepared, and resilient, ensuring that risk awareness is integrated into everyday decision-making.

It moves the University from reacting to problems after they happen to proactively managing risks. Everyone in the University community plays a role in spotting challenges, protecting resources, and supporting the University’s goals.

The program helps advance the University’s Strategic Goals in four main ways:

  1. Operational Excellence and Effectiveness
    • Standardized tools and processes help units work more consistently, transparently, and efficiently.
  2. Institutional Resilience and Sustainability
    • Identifying risks early strengthens our ability to respond to challenges and ensures long-term stability.
  3. Strategic Alignment and Accountability
    • Connecting unit-level risks to University priorities supports more intelligent decision-making and clear accountability.
  4. Collaboration and Engagement
    • By involving unit heads and Risk Champions, the program encourages teamwork and shared responsibility for managing risks.

The program aims to:

  • Build a shared understanding of risk across the University
  • Make risk awareness part of daily operations
  • Use consistent tools to identify and assess risks
  • Align unit-level risks with University priorities
  • Improve resilience through proactive planning
  • Ensure governance and accountability through structured reporting

The program works best when everyone participates:

  •  The University Risk Management Committee provides oversight and guidance.
  • Risk Champions in each unit lead local risk identification and documentation.
  • The RMCA, through the Institutional Risk Officer, offers guidance, training, and support.

These structures help ensure that risk management is practical, inclusive, and relevant to everyone’s work.
