La Salle seeks to restore neighboring creeks

In pursuit of UN Sustainable Goals on Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6) and Life Below Water (SDG 14) as well as the promotion of Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), De La Salle University hosted a meeting with representatives of government bodies for the restoration of creeks that border its perimeter.

The meeting was held last March 11 on campus, with DLSU represented by the Sustainability Hub Manila and Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA). Officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH),and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) joined the activity.

Two esteros or estuary tidal creeks or inlets–namely Estero Fort Antonio De Abad and Estero Maytubig– border parts of the Manila campus perimeter. Participants of the meeting talked about the existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the University and government bodies, including the DENR, MMDA, Laguna Lake Development Authority, Department of Health, Department of Science and Technology and the City of Manila Local Government.

Among the concerns raised were the management, monitoring, rehabilitation, improvement and protection of the said creeks. The attendees shared updates from their respective units.
