Course title: Scientific Impact for Chemical Engineers – Getting Published and Beyond
Schedule: 28 October 2025
Synopsis
Getting published in top-tier journals is now a prerequisite for successful academic careers. Even with the proliferation of publication opportunities, the global stage remains highly competitive due to rising productivity and impact norms across all fields. Chemical engineering is not exempt from this trend.
This seminar is designed to provide an editor’s perspective of the scientific publication process to guide prospective contributors to optimize their results. Topics covered include:
• The global “big picture”
• Preparing submissions to be published in top-tier journals
• Navigating the peer review process
• Maximizing scientific impact
• Promoting your work using social media
The seminar is intended for faculty members and students doing research in chemical engineering and allied disciplines. It will be delivered by an expert panel consisting editors of major journals.
Speakers
Prof. Kathleen B. Aviso – Full Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Dean of the Gokongwei College of Engineering of De La Salle University, Executive Editor of Elsevier’s Journal of Cleaner Production, and author of over 200 scientific papers on green engineering.
