Dynamic Light Scattering Instrument

The DLSU Spectroscopy Laboratory is a full-service laboratory of the Central Instrumentation Facility under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation. One of the instruments that the laboratory operates is the Malvern Zetasizer Nano  ZSP.  The instrument uses Dynamic Light Scattering or DLS technology to measure particle size, molecular weight, and zeta potential. The equipment is located in Room 205 Dr. George S.K.  Ty Central Instrumentation Facility at DLSU Laguna Campus in Binan, Laguna.

The facility offers Analytical Services using Zetasizer Nano and accepts samples not only from DLSU researchers but also from outside clients (academe, government, and industry) for a fee (please see the schedule of fees).

Additional Fees
Additional charges will be incurred upon the use of zeta potential cuvettes.
*Charge includes labor for experimental set-up, data processing, print-outs, and electronic data files.
*We require that papers for publication using the UV-Vis should acknowledge the DLSU Spectroscopy laboratory.
* DLSP system users refer to DLSU users outside the DLSU Chemistry Department including other schools within the DLSP system
  1. Avoid gelation, a gel is unsuitable for measurement using the Zetasizer.
  2. Ultrasonication can be used to remove air bubbles or to break up agglomerates in the sample. This must be applied carefully in order to avoid damaging the primary particles in the sample. Ultrasonication is sample-dependent. The CIF has ultrasonicator probe equipment. For more information, kindly check the CIF Sample Preparation Website page.
  3. Dust contamination to samples usually happens, therefore great care is required in sample preparation.
  4. All glassware and apparatus used for sample preparation must be rigorously clean and free of scratches.
  5. Label the samples properly and wrap them securely to prevent them from spilling. Wrap light-sensitive samples in aluminum foil or place them in amber bottles.
  6. For samples requiring a specific temperature for storage, ensure to store them in iceboxes and label them with temperature requirements, and add a “fragile” mark when necessary.
  7. Pack the samples carefully for transport to avoid spillage or breakage.
  8. Submit the sample to DLSU for analysis. Please click here on instructions on how to submit the samples.

STEP 1. Send your inquiries to [email protected], indicate your name and institution. To serve you better, we request a conference/discussion with you to help you determine the appropriate experiments to achieve your objectives.

STEP 2. Once the discussion has been finalized, the Zetasizer Analysis Form will be sent out to the email address you used or you may download the form here. Kindly fill out the form completely with all the details (one form for EACH SAMPLE). INCOMPLETE FORMS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED. Carefully read the Terms and Conditions indicated on the sample analysis form. For questions regarding the form, send an email to  [email protected].

STEP 3. Prepare the samples. Ensure that the requirements for the preparation of samples for DLS analysis are met.

STEP 4. Submit the analysis form together with the sample. Alternatively, electronic submission of forms can be accommodated through email.

STEP 5. A confirmation email will be sent to you once the form(s) have been received and checked. A quotation will be sent to you depending on the number of samples.

STEP 6. Once the form has been received, a quotation will be sent to you based on the number of samples and analysis you indicated in the Zetasizer Analysis form.  Pay the corresponding fee to the following address:

Bank: Metrobank
Branch: LTI-Binan Laguna Branch
Account name: De La Salle University
Account # : 609-3-609-00167-7

You can pay in cash or cheque.

Send the photo or scanned copy of the payment confirmation slip to [email protected] and copy [email protected].

STEP 7. Once payment has been confirmed, you may send the samples via courier to the address below.
