Porites galeata

Nemenzo, 1955

Corallum a crowded cluster of vertical branches whose tops are knobbed, truncate, almost of even height, coalescent, their sides nodulate. Living portion up to around 5.5 cm downward. Viewed from the top, the corallum resembles the cauliflower, large and small branches intermixed and coalescing in a confusing manner.

Calicles even with surface, polygonal, 1-1.5 mm diameter. Walls of lower calicles reticulate, moderately wide without median ridge. Those of calicles on upper portion with very thin median ridge consisting of a single row of fine granules bristling with spinules. This appearance of the mural granules is very striking.

Septa heavily frosted; the septal formula can be made out although oftentimes obscured by the large pali. In lower calicles, the septal granules and pali are large and heavily frosted, even with the surface. In the calicles near the top of branches, the pali are tall, exsert above calicinal wall and much enlarged. Septal granules usually 2 to a septum in lower calicles. Pali 6, that of dorsal directive the smallest. Intercalicinal loculi narrow, thinner than septa—mere slits in lower calicles, becoming wider in upper calicles where skeletal elements appear lax.

Columella a fine tubercle, with 3 or 5 rays joined to inner synapticular ring.
