The social sciences, as a collective area of scholarship, play an important role in the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The different theories, principles, tools, and methodologies of the social sciences have been proven to be useful in the different phases of the SDG program implementation, which include research, capacity building, people mobilization, and community organization. Issues relating to health, education, the environment, poverty and inequality, food security, gender, peace, and justice, water and sanitation, decent work, sustainable cities, innovation, economic growth, renewable energy, and climate change are very social in nature.  

This international conference aims to strengthen and deepen the integration of the social sciences and SDGs through the key A.R.E.A.S. of education in the 21st century, which refers to academics, research, engagement, advocacy, and synergy. This conference highlights the contribution of the social sciences toward attaining the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It shall focus on how the social science disciplines interrogate and respond to social problems relating to the 17 global challenges that we are collectively addressing through our communities, institutions, and global partnerships. Ultimately, we aim towards doing our part to uplift human conditions and to make Earth a sustainable planet now and for the next generations. 

We welcome educators, researchers, students, program implementers, government and industry personnel and leaders, community organizers, youth leaders, and professionals around the globe to participate in this international conference. It is intended to provide a platform for sharing current research initiatives and projects which can be replicated as best practices by individuals and institutions and a venue for reflective, critical, and collaborative discussions on the role of the social sciences in the attainment of the SDGs. 

Submitted abstracts and panels may highlight and tackle any of the following substreams (A.R.E.A.S.)  or  related inter/multidisciplinary topics other than those mentioned below:

Call for abstracts and panels: (extended deadline) until June 30, 2023

Abstract acceptance notification: until July 5, 2023

Submission of research briefs/full papers: until July 5, 2023

1. Provide the title of your abstract, statement of the problem or objectives, methodology, research framework, and initial discussions or findings for completed projects.
2. Abstract must not be longer than 300 words. 
3. To submit your abstract, please click the link or scan the QR code above. 
4. The Technical Research Panel (TRP) shall review all submitted abstracts and shall release the results on or before July 5, 2023. 
5. Accepted abstracts shall be published in PDF with your consent in the conference program. 
6. For panels, submit the theme of your panel, and all abstracts with details indicated in number 1. 
7. Maximum panel composition is 4 presenters. A special discount rate is given to panels with 4 participants.

1. Only those with accepted abstracts shall receive the link/QR code of the Registration Form.
2. Participants with approved abstracts shall have the option to submit either a research brief or a research paper. 
3. The deadline for submission of research brief or full paper is on July 5, 2023.
4. With your consent, your full paper or research brief will be published in the conference proceedings with ISBN. It will be available in October 2023. 
5. The research brief consists of not more than 5,000 words and must contain the following: title, abstract, research questions, methodology, framework, results of the study, and conclusion. 
6. The research brief is applicable to those who want to share their work-in-progress paper or their preliminary research project. 
7. The research paper is a full-length manuscript and must consist of not more than 8,000 words. It shall cover the necessary parts of an academic paper as mentioned in section 2 above.  
8. Submission of research brief or full-length paper must follow the APA Style 7th edition.

1. The APSSR, which is a Scopus-listed journal of DLSU, will have a special issue on the UN SDGs. 
2. Outstanding papers from the DLSU International Social Sciences Conference 2023 shall be selected and published in the special issue. 
3. To properly review submitted full papers or research briefs, presenters are highly encouraged to submit their complete papers earlier than July 5, 2023. 
4. The Editor-in-Chief of APPSR shall contact selected paper presenters whose papers are included in the special issue. 
5. Selected papers must conform to APSSR’s manuscript format and editorial guidelines.

1. Three outstanding research papers (full-length) selected by the Technical Research Panel shall receive the DISSCON2023 Best Paper Award. 
2. Research briefs are not qualified for the Best Paper Award. However, outstanding research briefs may be considered for possible publication in the Asia Pacific Social Sciences Review (APSSR).
