Key Features
The University established a set of criteria on course and instructional design for the remote delivery of courses through an online platform. The criteria is designed as a guide for faculty members to ensure that learning outcomes are met through synchronous and asynchronous sessions. Formative and summative assessments are provided to ensure the quality of learning. The academic unit heads and course coordinators supervise the specific courses to ensure compliance with the quality criteria.
There will be three types of course delivery modes:
- full-online courses
- hybrid courses that will have face-to-face in either Week 11 or Week 12
- predominantly face-to-face courses (such as laboratory classes that will physically meet on Weeks 10 and 13, and online on Weeks 9, 11, 12, and 14.)
Lasallians R.E.A.C.H. provides opportunities for faculty and students to connect through chats, threaded discussions, and conferences. This remote learning also allows students to undertake collaborative works, including research and creative projects, with their teacher as well as their classmates.
This learning mode sets performance expectations regarding participation in online discussions. Synchronous sessions are recorded so that those who missed any session can catch up. Recorded sessions also give all students the chance to review the session.
DLSU harnesses the power of AnimoSpace, its learning management system that allows for a greater deal of organization on course requirements. The platform has the ability to create a digital portfolio of students’ outputs and to give them notifications, such as upcoming examinations and homework deadlines.
Built on the online platform Canvas, AnimoSpace integrates sites and programs already being used by DLSU, such as: Turnitin, an internet-based plagiarism detection service; Studio, a video-based learning and collaboration tool; Google Drive; and DLSU Library online resources.
Our research and academic powerhouse–faculty members who are acknowledged as tertiary education leaders and industry experts–will continue to deliver up-to-date, relevant programs benchmarked with respected global higher education institutions.
This means that the faculty will be teaching and assisting their students every step of the way, ensuring that activities and assessments can be done online and offline. The faculty will follow a set of quality criteria in the course and instructional design for the remote delivery of courses.
To provide a quality learning experience online, faculty members will take advantage of the six-week break, preparing blueprint courses for AnimoSpace from May 20 to June 30, to further hone their online delivery skills and prepare for the July 1 opening of Term 3.
The University has initiated various institutional support for its members in the delivery of online courses. Education packages are being arranged with telecommunication companies for students and faculty to avail wi-fi gadgets at special rates in support of their online learning requirements.
In addition, DLSU’s Academic Support for Instructional Services and Technology (ASIST) unit provides technical and instructional support for faculty members and students in their online activities.
Student feedback is a key feature of Lasallians R.E.A.C.H. The University keeps an open line of communication to hear student concerns on online learning. It also gives reasonable accommodations to ensure the delivery of quality education. Faculty members get in touch with their students at least once a week, not only for academic concerns, but also to find out how they are doing.
