Dr. Cheryll Soriano is a Professor in the Department of Communication, De La Salle University Manila. Her research examines the implications of digital communication on social, cultural, and political processes. She has made scholarly and practical interventions in the areas of communication and media ethics, platformization of cultural production, and platform labor. She plays an active role in global, regional, and national research networks on digital media and platformization research, including Fairwork (as Principal Investigator for Fairwork Philippines), Platform Ecosystems and Transactional Cultures in Asia (as co-investigator), and the multi-disciplinary research, Future Citizen Partnership Initiative. Cheryll is the incoming co-editor-in-chief of the new open-access journal, Platforms & Society. She is Associate Editor of the Asian Journal of Communication and Plaridel and sits on the Editorial Boards of key journals in communication and media studies such as the Journal of Communication, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, and Communication, Culture and Critique, among others. She also participates in international expert committees such as the Platform Work Inclusion Living Lab (P-WILL), the European Science Foundation panel of review experts, and the International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE). Professor Soriano held Visiting Fellowships at the LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore), RMIT University (Australia), and Peking University (China). Her books include Philippine Digital Cultures: Brokerage Dynamics on YouTube (with E. Cabalquinto, Amsterdam University Press, 2022) and Asian Perspectives on Digital Culture: Emerging Phenomena, Enduring Concepts (with S.S. Lim, Routledge, 2018).
