Dr. Nilo Bugtai, Ph.D.

  

Nilo T. Bugtai. PhD, a Full Professor of Manufacturing Engineering and Management (MEM). He is an outstanding research innovator and a multi awarded faculty He holds a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Manufacturing Engineering (2003) from Wolfson School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Loughborough University in England, United Kingdom and Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering (1992) from De La Salle University, Manila. Dr. Bugtai was a recipient of the Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science scholarships from the Department of Science & Technology, Republic of the Philippines. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (1983) from the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu City, Philippines.

Since 1989 Dr. Bugtai had educated diverse multidisciplinary engineers and became a mentor of several award winning research projects both for locally and internationally. Just to name a few, Gold Prize Winner for two consecutive years in the Intel Asia Pacific Challenge in 2011 and 2012, of which the competition was participated by 12 countries in the Asia Pacific Region. Recently, together with his students garnered the 1st Prize Winner for three consecutive years in the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Magsaysay Future Engineers/Technologists Award in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Dr. Bugtai, was a visiting Professor (2013) at the Precision Micro Machining Center, University of Toledo, Ohio USA. He was a Visiting Professor (2005) at University of Pisa – Faculty of Engineering in Pisa Italy working on Biomedical & Clinical Engineering. In 2004 he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, working on Smart Tools for Product Design & Development. He was an Exchange Faculty (1994) at University of Southern Queensland in Australia, working on Wall Climbing Robots at the National Center for Engineering & Agriculture’s Mechatronics Laboratory. He was a recipient of the British Council scholarship grant (1991) on Manufacturing Engineering Course at Loughborough University and a US-ASEAN scholar (1990) on Computer Integrated Manufacturing Course at Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand.

His areas of research interests include Biomedical Devices Innovation and e-Health, Decision Support Systems for Product Design & Manufacture; CAE/CAD/CAM/CIM Systems and Intellectual Property Protection. Dr. Bugtai has completed several researches and published technical papers in the national/international journals and conference proceedings. He is a senior member of Mechatronics & Robotics Society of the Philippines (MRSP), and a lifetime member of Network for Integrative Multi-disciplinary Bioinformatics Utilization Strategies (NIMBUS), Manila Philippines. He is a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers – Association for Manufacturing Excellence (SME-AME) in Dearborn Michigan and a senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers – Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE-EMBS), Piscataway New Jersey, USA.
