Theme: “Intensifying Environmental Engineering of the 21st Century to Protect Public Health,
Environment, and Our Common Future”
Conference Date and Time: December 5, 2018
Conference Time: 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM
Venue: Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC Hall, De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines

Organized by the Society of Environmental Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (SEEP), the Annual SEEP National conference is an opportunity to gain and share knowledge on the latest trends and development in environmental engineering and be able to network with academicians and practitioners for research and project collaboration. Distinguished lecturers will deliver talks and workshops towards strengthening best practices in environmental engineering in the Philippines.

Day 1 (December 5, 2018) of the National Conference will be dedicated for inspirational talks, environmental engineering quiz, technical lecture on Ecosystem-based Adaptation, research paper presentations, and a workshop on applying advanced quantitative tools that can be used for disaster risk management.

Day 2 (December 6, 2018) will be scheduled for the learning visits and SEEP General Assembly and team building activity.

E-mail [email protected] to register.

There will be a registration fee (inclusive of SEEP annual due for 2018) of Three Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (Php 3,500.00) for SEEP members; and Three Thousand Pesos for Student Participants and Non-members (3,000) which will cover Day 1&2 (AM & PM snacks and lunch, fellowship dinner on Day 1), transportation for plant visits, basic NatCon kit, and conference certificates.

Please note: The activity will be live-out and does not include accommodation.

The advanced capacity building workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Michael Angelo B. Promentilla.

The workshop is intended for students, faculty and practitioners who are interested in applying advanced quantitative tools that can be used for disaster risk management. This workshop thus introduces the basic concept of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and Input-Output (I-O) models and their various formulations. For example, the input–output inoperability model (IIM) is a simple, but insightful tool for analyzing the cascading effects induced by critical infrastructure dependencies and interdependencies. The following systems such as healthcare infrastructure, telecommunications, electric power systems, natural gas and oil, banking and finance, transportation, water supply systems, government services, and emergency services are typically considered as critical infrastructure systems (CIS).

Given a disruptive event such as climate-induced disaster, the “inoperability” or the failure of a system to deliver its intended function, and how the inoperability in one system cascades through other infrastructure systems must be understood to manage the risk in CIS and to ensure the continuity of the goods and services provided by these systems. In addition, prioritization of interventions or countermeasures requires a systematic and transparent method built from multi-criteria analysis and participatory decision making. For the hands-on learning activities, the participants are encouraged to bring their personal laptop with installed Microsoft Excel.
