Abstract:
-This paper presents a study on the development of a Decision Support System (DSS) for Health Center Workers. An introduction was done by discussing an overview of the country’s health system; its goals and objectives, structure, current statistics, and a comparative of the health system in other countries in Asia. An in depth discussion about the health system is also presented dwelling on the public health system of the National Capital Region and an assessment of the current situation was done through a WOT-SURG Analysis.
The WOT-SURG Analysis determined the weights of the problem of the health care system of the country and also aided in determining the final problem which is to be solved in this study. Three final problems were arrived at in the said analysis and an interrelationship diagram connecting the problems was done so that the main cause of all these problems will be known. Upon knowing the final cause of the problem, a proposed solution was the implementation of a DSS that would enable the workers in the health center in making proper decisions with regards of its constituents and also proper integration and utilization of the information at hand.
The design of the DSS had to undergo four phases namely; (1) conceptual design, (2) initial design (3) initial validation and (4) final design and validation. In each of the phases mentioned, the workers in the health center (Dr. Lagosa Health Center in Pasay was the case study) were consulted to determine the best design; layout and the formulas to be used in the DSS.
The final design of the DSS proved to be a helpful system for workers in the health center because of the quick data integration and huge savings on treatment costs. Recommendations for further development of the software are also given in this study.
