Abstract:
-Digitally estimating the characteristics of the human face (e.g. size, shape and contour) in a practical manner has been a prevalent subject for research. Faces are difficult to reconstruct because they are individually unique and very much unpredictable for estimation. Oftentimes, expensive equipment is required in order to achieve satisfactory results. This paper presents an algorithm that attempts to solve the problem at hand. Using off-theshelf hardware in the form of two identical digital cameras, it will be shown that through the mechanics of stereoscopy and the aid of facial feature recognition through Principal Component Analysis, successful 3D face reconstructions can be achieved.
