Master of Education, major in Educational Leadership and Management
(Non-Thesis Program, NTMEELM)
This program provides students with knowledge, competencies, values, and skills required in leading and managing their schools effectively and efficiently and for the pursuit of further studies. At the end of their course work, students are required to write and defend a thesis that would enhance the practice of educational leadership and management and contribute to new knowledge in the field.
At the end of their course work, students are required to write and defend an action research that would enhance the classroom or school practice in an educational setting and contribute in the field of educational leadership and management.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
Graduates of Master of Arts in Education, major in Educational Leadership and Management (Non-Thesis) are expected to possess the following Lasallian attributes, namely:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission to programs offered by the Department of Educational Leadership and Management is on a selective basis. In general, only those students who can profit from graduate work and are able to successfully comply with prescribed requirements for graduation shall be considered.
The following factors are considered in the admission process:
- GPA of at least 85% in the bachelor’s degree.
- Entrance exam results
- Potential for graduate work and educational leadership based on results of interview

- English (ENG501M / ENG502M and/ or ENGFO1M/ ENGFO2M) – Must pass the admission essay test to be exempted

Additional six (6) units of Advanced Technical Reading and Writing 1 and 2 will be required for applicants with a low score in the essay part of the entrance examination.
*The student is required to present his/her Action Research Paper (Capstone Project) in a conference and have it published in a peer-reviewed conference proceedings. The student’s institutional affiliation for the conference proceedings should bear the name of De La Salle University. The presentation and publication date must be within the student’s residency in the program or prior to his/her graduation.
BASIC/FOUNDATION COURSES (9 units + 1)
ELM 511M Introduction to Research and Statistics (3 units)
This course provides understanding of basic research concepts and methods. The following course objectives are: (1) To apply research knowledge and skills in their field of specialization; (2) to express appreciation for the value of research in understanding human behavior in the context of education; (3) to understand the fundamental concepts and principles of descriptive and inferential statistics; and (4) to apply the fundamental concepts of statistics to research problems in education, psychology and the social science and to value honesty, industry, perseverance, determination, hard work, order and respect for others which are the requirements of conducting research.
EDM683M Educational Leadership and Management in the New Economy (3 units)
This course presents prospective school leaders with a fuller understanding of the theories of organization, leadership, and management and approaches in managing organizational behavior in the contemporary Philippine setting.
ELM850M Action Research (3 units)
The course aims to develop the skills of the student in applying research methodologies and procedures to design and execute an action research study. A primary output of the course is the preparation of an action research that can later be carried out in a subsequent course (Independent/Praxis Study).

EDM535M Lasallian Philosophy of Education (1 unit)
The course helps students to acquire an understanding of St. John Baptist De La Salle’s life, work, writings and charism in order for the student to make De La Salle’s spirit come alive in contemporary education.

EDM541M Instructional Leadership (3 units)
The course deals with the nature, process and general approaches to the supervision of instruction and implementation of instructional program.
EDM564M Program Evaluation (3 units)
The course merges theory and application bearing on evaluation of learning and of educational programs. The students are expected to construct pencil-and-paper tests based on principles and guidelines on test construction, develop scoring rubrics to evaluate the execution of a process, performance, or product and to develop a plan for evaluating a particular course, field of study, or program.
EDM591M Curriculum Engineering (3 units)
The course deals with the principles, design and processes of curriculum development, and change, materials development, and evaluation of teaching-learning outcomes.
EDM682M Fiscal Planning and Management (3 units)
The course provides a systematic and formalized approach to managing three important areas: financial analysis and planning, asset management, and financial structure management
EDM685M Human Resources Management (3 units)
The course focuses on the roles and functions of human resource management in the school setting, specifically on the recruitment, development, compensation, and evaluation of human resources. Consideration is given to the environment of schools and their need for greater resource productivity and organizational effectiveness.
EDM713M Technology in Educational Learning Environments (3 units)
It is a study of the use and applications of technology in educational management. Covers emerging trends, e.g. end user computing experts system, MIS planning, and the use of MIS to achieve the competitive edge, technology enabled educational delivery system
EDM740M Legal Aspects of Education (3 units)
The course is intended for educational administrators, at whatever level of the school organization, who need to be exposed to, know and understand the laws and regulations affecting the organization and operation of private educational institutions. This course is not intended to be a law subject. Thus, the course is designed for the educational administrators as legal neophytes who should account for the legal aspects in decision making.
INTEGRATING COURSES (6 units)
EDM805M Seminar on Renewal and Change in Educational Institutions (3 units)
The course will provide a forum for students to synthesize and apply concepts, theories, and principles learned in the major courses in formulating a strategic plan aimed at institutional renewal and change.
ELM851M Independent Study/Praxis Paper (3 units)
The course focuses on the execution of an action research plan which was developed in the Action Research course. The investigation should address specific problem areas and concerns aimed at improving educational practice in Special Education, Early Childhood Education and Educational Management. Educational Management students may opt to write an empirical project paper.
