Gawad Mag-aaral (Student Awards)

The Student Personnel Services (SPS) of the De La Salle University-Manila commits itself to the value of excellence by recognizing achievers in various fields of endeavor. With this thrust in mind, the unit pursues to promote excellence among Lasallian students in fields of leadership, sports, and community service through the much-awaited Gawad Mag-aaral 2008. It is a night of recognition and honor to the students who continuously achieve for excellence in leadership and service. The following are the awards that are given during the night of celebration.

Francisco V. Ortigas Jr. Award

Most Outstanding Student Leader

The mark of true leadership is the ability to balance academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular undertakings. It demands leadership competencies, which could only be achieved by a strong sense of purpose and discipline.

The Most Outstanding Student Leader epitomizes the ideal as expressed in the Christian Achiever's Framework.

The Francisco Ortigas Jr. Award is given to the Most Outstanding Student Leader who displays strong leadership imbued with true Lasallian values, academic excellence, and indefatigable service to the community amidst personal responsibilities.

Brother Asisclus Michael, FSC Award

Most Outstanding CSO President

The success of an organization heavily lies on the exemplary performance of the president, may it be personal leadership or organizational leadership.

The Most Outstanding Student Organization President is indeed the shining example of total quality leadership among organizations.

The Br. Asisclus Michael Award is given to the most outstanding student organization president, who, like Br. Asisclus, leads others to become excellent and competent in bringing the student organization to achieve its aims and purpose.

Ariston J. Estrada, Sr. Award

Most Outstanding Student Publication Leader

The Ariston Estrada Sr. Award is given to the outstanding student who has shown dedication to his organization as a leader of a student publication. The student shows consistency in work and leadership in managing his/her staff to produce quality outputs.

Leandro V. Locsin Award

Most Outstanding Cultural Arts Group Leader

A performing group requires expertise and outstanding skills in delivering their craft. With this requirement comes along the leadership within the group.

The Most Outstanding Cultural Arts Group Leader is bestowed to that individual who is able to show its finest both in performance as well as in leading the group in garnering recognition within and beyond the University.

The Leandro V. Locsin Award is given to the cultural arts group officer who displays leadership, develops talent among the cultural group members as well as promoting the arts in the university.

Brother John Lynam, FSC Award

Most Outstanding Male Student Athlete
Most Outstanding Female Student Athlete

The Lasallian athlete who has emerged among all players, in any sport, and one who has shown what true sportsmanship and leadership is all about.

The Most Outstanding Student Athlete depicts what a Christian Achiever should be through sports.

The Most Outstanding Student Athlete exemplifies Brother John Lyman's passion for sports and the capability to excel amidst competition.

Brother Imar William, FSC Award

Most Outstanding Student in Discipline Leadership and Advocacy

The Most Outstanding Student in Discipline exemplifies the discipline and character encouraged and displayed by Brother William.

This award is given to the student leader who initiated the most efforts to push forward involvement to promote peace, order and cleanliness in the university.

Bishop Felix Paz Perez Award

Most Outstanding Student Organization Adviser

Student organizations are more successful with the full support of mentors and advisers.
The Most Outstanding Student Organization Adviser has been that supporter, that who has exhibited outstanding advising, true concern and sound management to the organization.
The Bishop Felix Paz Perez Award is given to the outstanding student organization adviser, who like the late Bishop, shows genuine concern for the growth and development of students involved in organizations.

Father Gratian Murray, AFSC Award

Most Outstanding Student in Community Development

Beyond the walls of the university is a more complex world, which serves as the best resource for learning - the society.

The Most Outstanding Student in Community Development has truly rendered unselfish service for the development of the community, guided by the life and example of St. John Baptist De La Salle.

The Fr. Gratian Murray Community Development Award is given to the student who displays exemplary commitment for community development and social transformation. Like Fr. Gratian, the student awardee shows an example of genuine concern for the community, initiating and being involved in the task of social upliftment.


Colonel Jesus A. Villamor

Most Outstanding Student Military Leader

Colonel Jesus A. Villamor is an alumnus and had an associate of Arts degree from De La Salle University in 1935. Determined to be a military pilot, he studied abroad and endured rigorous training.

On December 10, 1945, Villamor led a small group of antiquated squadron to fight with Japanese fighters. In spite of the enemy's superiority, Villamor shot down his enemies. He was the first Filipino aviator to shoot down an enemy aircraft. For this, Gen. Douglas Mc Arthur awarded him the Distinguished Service Cross.

The Most Outstanding Student Military Leader Award is given to the one has shown the idealism to serve the country and the discipline to excel in student military training.
