The "Postgraduate and Industrial Training in Sustainable Technology Project" has its formal launching last January 23, 2006 at the DLSU College of Saint Benilde Hotel. Gracing the activity were the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Estrella Alabastro, DLSU EVP, Dr.Carmelita Quebengco, the lead persons of the project partners, management team of the College of Engineering and representatives from European Commission, British Council Philippines, DENR-EMB and industry and academe representatives.
CESDR together with DOST, DOE, DENR and the Japan Advance Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) will be submitting a proposal for the establishment of the Philippine LCA Clearing house Information Center to be housed in DLSU. This will serve as the LCA documentation and dissemination center to serve LCA initiatives ion the country. The program will work for accreditation by a national authority and is expected to strongly linked with foreign partners such as JAIST. Among its activities will be organization of conference and seminars, documentation depository, research and staff exchange.
The Center for Micro-Hydro Technology for Rural Electrification (CeMTRE) project official ended last December 2005. Recognizing the benefits of the continuation of the project to rural areas, a proposal is currently being worked on with the Japanese International Cooperation Authority (JICA) for the extension of the project. The proposal focused continuing the technology training programs, setting of an additional system either in the Visayas and Minadano, and the establishment of a 15KW hydraulic testing center. The current testing center is hosted by DLSU with a maximum testing capacity of only 2 KW.
