Operations Research/Management Science Group

Rationale

The Government and majority of the Industries here in the Philippines recognizes the need to apply quantitative decision making in their strategic and tactical plans to promote continuous company growth. Typical problems like distribution (supply chain), facility location and layout, scheduling, make or buy, traffic, and data mining are abundant in almost any business whether local or multinational. The sad part in this situation is that businesses are not able to maximize the tools or even utilize them because of limited resources, computing facility, and software, that would enable them to extract usable and objective decisions.

Mission

The Center for OR/MS, a university research center through the Center for Engineering and Sustainable Development Research (CESDR), envisions to partner with Government and Industry in pursuing applied and theoretical research in the field of Operations Research and Management Science as a tool for quantitative decision-making towards making the Philippines a global competitive country.

Mandate

  • Promote the use of quantitative tools for business and government and be the leader in OR/MS application and research in the country.
  • Draw out the maximum potential of the DLSU-IE OR Facilities and its faculty by selecting host companies funded by URCO.
  • Produce research papers OR/MS application for local and international publication.
  • Collaboration with professional societies such as Operations Research Society of the Philippines (ORSP) and Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE).
  • Generate externally funded research from industry and government.
  • Promote CORMS as a resource for national growth.

Facilities

The Center houses state of the art computing hardware and all licensed research software. 

  • Hardware: Local Area Network of 6 units Pentium 4 (1 GB RAM, 100 MB HD), 3 units Pentium 3 (512 MB RAM, 80 MB HD), SCANNER, PRINTERS.
  • Optimization Software: ILOG/OPL, ILOG/CPLEX, GAMS, XPRESS-MP, and PREMIUM SOLVER.
  • Simulation Software: ARENA, PROMODEL, PROCESS MODEL, PROFESSIONAL DYNAMO, STELLA, and VISUAL FACTORY.
  • Statistical Software: STATISTICA, DESIGN EXPERT for Design of Experiments
