Until recently, new and renewable energy sources such as micro- and mini-hydro power in the Philippines are becoming viable sources of power generation, particularly for small isolated communities. The initial investment might look big, but the long term benefit to the community and to the environment (e.g., greenhouse gas emissions reduction) will outweigh the investment.
