Sports Development Program

Other Team Membership & Endorsements

  1. Varsity athletes will be allowed by the Director of Sports Development to become members of the other teams provided:
    • their current term GPA and cumulative GPA are at least 1.6;
    • their academic schedules are not unduly disrupted;
    • such membership will enhance their athletic skills;
    • the other team signs a waiver giving priority to the UAAP competition requirements of the varsity team where the athlete belongs. However, the Director of Sports Development may defer to the other team if it will best serve the national interest; and
    • the other team will provide insurance coverage equal to or better than the coverage provided by De La Salle University.
  2. Athletes invited to join try-outs of other teams including the national team must first obtain the written permission of the Director of Sports Development.
  3. Endorsements
    Athletes who would like to endorse products or services of commercial establishments should inform the Office of Sports Development of their intention. The Director will check if the endorsement will not violate any University policy and take into account the desirable effects of such endorsement.

Physical Fitness Conditioning & Handling of Injuries and illness

  • All athletes – varsity, training, training pool and student teams – are required to undergo physical conditioning exercises at the Physical Fitness Center.
  • The senior physical fitness trainer/therapist in consultation with the head coaches will design the exercise programs tailor-fit the physical conditioning requirements in each sport. The exercise programs, which will include strengthening of body parts prone to injuries, will consist of one (1) hour routines three (3) times a week and will be scheduled outside of academic and training hours.
  • All athletes are required to perform their exercise routines regularly. Those who fail to perform their exercise routines regularly without justifiable reasons, risk removal from the varsity.
  • Athletes are required to fill up the Application for Physical Fitness Conditioning Service for evaluation and design of exercise routines by the senior physical fitness trainer/therapist and approval of the exercise program by the head of the Medical and Dental Services.
  • In case of injuries, the procedures in the treatment, management and disposition of injuries in Part 6 of the Physical Fitness Center of this Manual will apply.
  • For non-sports related illness, the athlete will be examined at the University Clinic and any further action that may be taken will be upon the advice of the attending physician.
  • Under no circumstances will the head coaches allow injured athletes or those coming off illness, to resume training or participate in competitions without a certification from the head of the Medical and Dental Services that the athlete is physically fit to resume his/her athletic activities.
