Sports Development Program – Training

  1. The head coaches are responsible for developing training programs for their teams. The training program will be designed within the framework of the Lasallian values of Religio, Mores and Cultura and will incorporate the True “Green” Lasallian concepts of sportsmanship and healthy competition.
  2. Athletic training should arouse a strong desire to maximize the development of their skills and potentials. It shall include specific methods and drills that are necessary in the full development of the athletes individually and as a team to maintain the competitive capability of the team at all times.
  3. The training program will have theoretical and practical segments. The theoretical segment will cover:
    • game rules and regulations and will be conducted by game referees, where feasible;
    • do’s and don’ts; and
    • values formation to be conducted in consultation with academics departments. The practical segment will consist of methodologies and/or drills designed to:
      • teach the fundamentals of the game;
      • develop, enhance and refine the individual and collective skills of athletes;
      • acquire skills specialization where applicable; and
      • master game strategies.
  4. Training Schedules
    • Training sessions are normally at least three (3) times a week, each session lasting not more than three (3) hours. At the discretion of the head coaches, the number of training sessions within the week may be increased. This is usually done to condition the team to perform at their peak level during competition, primarily. However, the additional training sessions will be scheduled by the head coach in consultation with the athletes on days and hours with no conflict with the academic schedules of the athletes.
    • Each training session will start with a prayer, followed by warm up exercises and end with cooling down workout.
  5. Attendance at training sessions is expected of varsity athletes and those who are not able to join the sessions for more than 12 times without justifiable reasons will be removed from the team. Three (3) absences from scheduled training three (3) months before the start of the UAAP team event may be a cause for removal from the team.
  6. The training program designed by head coaches will be reviewed by the Assistant Director and approved by the Director of Sports Development. At the end of the UAAP season, the OSD Assistant Director and the concerned head coach of the sport will review the training program in the light of the team’s performance. When necessary, modification in methodologies/drills and the latest developments in training techniques will be incorporated in the training program to raise performance levels.
