DO Lecture in LPEP 2008

You can view/read the poweerpoint presentation of the DO Lecture Module utilized during LPEP 2008 from this link , as part of the Discipline Office inforamation dissemination campaign. Thank you very much.

Text-a-DO Service

To ensure direct and efficient linkage with members of the DLSU community, DO launched a “Text-a-DO Service” where all members of the DLSU community may report any discipline-related incident or concern for DO’s urgent action. These mobile numbers are 0917-3706418 and 0917-8567509.

Values Clarification and Development Program (DOVCDP)

This is a formative approach of dealing with students with discipline problems. Its principal goal is to provide students referred for disciplinary action with opportunities for personal growth and development by exposing them to a series of seminars and related activities on values formation and values clarification.

Discipline Lectures

DO coordinates with Orient Central Committee, Graduate School of Business (GSB), and the Office of STUDENT LIFE for the delivery of discipline lectures and orientations to students both in the undergraduate and graduate programs. For its curriculum integration program, DO coordinates with the Theology & Religious Education Department (TRED) for the delivery of discipline lectures to students in Relstri and Relsfor classes every third term. Discipline lectures, symposia, orientations, reaching out activities, and seminars are also among the regular activities of the Office in keeping the Lasallian community, particularly the students and faculty, updated on the university rules and regulations pertaining to student discipline. These programs are also extended to international students, faculty, and parents of university students.

DO Clean-up Drive

This is the latest campaign initiated by the Office to promote cleanliness and orderliness inside the campus and to minimize or eradicate losses inside the University. Students are prohibited from leaving their personal belongings unattended and from denying other students in getting equal access to available facilities on campus. Littering and unhygienic use of university facilities constitute minor offenses under the Student Handbook.

Discipline Clearances

The DO is the unit in the University, which issues Certificate of Good Moral Character to students and graduates for whatever legitimate reasons. It is also one of the units in the University which issues clearances to students for the following purposes: Readmission to Class, Release of Transcript of Records, Diploma, Transfer Credentials, and other School Records, Taking a Leave of Absence, Returning to the University, Shifting Degree Programs, and others as may be required by other units, offices, and organizations.

Case Conference with Students and their Parents or Guardians

Another program of the DO to effectively handle student discipline cases is to develop a close partnership between the University and parents of students who commit two (2) or more minor offenses. In said cases, the DO Director invites the parents or guardians for a case conference with him where the latter are informed of the discipline record of their children as well as of the DO Director's decision regarding the second or succeeding minor offense, as the case may be, after taking into consideration the students' explanation, and are persuaded to take an active role in guiding and reminding their children to strictly comply with University rules and regulations.

For first minor offenses, the DO Director also conducts a case conference with student-respondents to personally explain to the latter the importance of the rule the student allegedly violated and at the same time, decides the case after listening to the explanation/ defenses.

In both cases, the DO Director, shall have an opportunity to listen and address the concerns of the students as well as their parents or guardians.

Student Discipline Board and University Panel for Case Conferences

For major offenses, student-offenders' right to due process is sufficiently guaranteed by endorsing to the Student Discipline Board cases when the student-respondent denied, or incompletely or qualifiedly admitted the charge against him/her, or to the University Panel for Case Conference when the student-respondent completely admitted the charge. The presence of the student representative during all proceedings before both student discipline adjudication bodies is an indispensable requirement.

Lost and Found Services

DO also provides lost and found services to the Lasallian community and ensures the proper implementation of University policies, rules and regulations related to lost and found items on campus, lending of calculators, and monitoring the proper use of lockers on campus. The DO Lost and Found Section also monitors the proper use of lockers on campus, and the inventory of sharp objects for instructional purpose.

DO Paragons

This is the student support staff program of the DO which recruits student volunteers with potentials, interest and capabilities in assisting the DO in the delivery of its programs and services. The Office provides trainings and activities to develop and enhance the Paragons' skills and potentials so that they could competently assist the Office and perform their tasks as DO support staff members.

Text-a-DO Service

In addition to its direct line (5360269) and two (2) local lines (611 and 414), DO had also launched its so-called Text-a-DO Service where the Lasallian community may report any discipline-related incident or concern for DO's urgent action. These mobile numbers are 0917-3706418 and 0917-8567509.

Networking with Other Units for Discipline-Related Assistance

DO has roving Discipline Officers, both in uniform and plainclothes, assigned to each building within DLSU-Manila whose assistance for discipline-related concerns may be called upon by any member of the Lasallian community. Other units or offices having activities involving students may request for the assistance of Discipline Officers through the DO Director at least five (5) days before the date of activity.

Student Discipline Awards

The Student Personnel Services (SPS) sponsors and organizes annually the Student Awards to recognize the outstanding performance of student leaders, colleges, organizations and faculty advisers, and among these awards are: the Most Outstanding Student in Discipline Leadership and Advocacy, which is given to any student leader (elected or appointed officer of any recognized student organization) who initiated the best efforts to encourage students to develop discipline consciousness and who assisted the DO in its information dissemination campaign about university policies; the Most Peaceful, Orderly and Cleanest College Award, which is given to the College with the least or no major discipline infraction and is able to maintain cleanliness on the basis of littering, vandalism, and violation of eating and poster policies; and the DO Service Merit Awards, which are given to the DO Paragons (student assistants) who have excellently served the office for one (1) school year as student volunteers. Likewise, the Student Discipline Board (SDB) also recognizes the Most Outstanding Student Representative to the SDB once a year to commend the exemplary performance of its student representatives.

Discipline Awareness Month

Starting SY 2003-2004, the Discipline Office declared the month of July as the "Discipline Awareness Month".

By sponsoring different activities related to student discipline on campus like exhibits, seminars and fora, student gatherings, parade, film showing and the like, the DO hopes to achieve the following objectives:

  • Intensify information drive concerning University policies, rules and regulations on campus;
  • Strengthen linkages with student organizations, offices on campus and other government and non-government agencies as its partners in reaching out to students; and
  • Promote the formative programs, collaborative activities and student services of the Discipline Office;
  • Encourage students' involvement and active participation in advocating discipline inside the University.

Discipline Publications

In order to intensify information dissemination of student-discipline policies and activities on campus, DO releases an official publication called the DO Bulletin. It features the most recent activities of the Office as well as updates and developments particularly on modified rules and regulations of the University. The DO also releases a DO Guide which is a compilation of important policies and procedures on student discipline as well as offenses most commonly committed by students. It also contains reminders which include important Student Handbook provisions, penalties on offenses, DO programs and services and frequently asked questions about discipline policies.
