CBE students top global business competition

Students of the course Business Policy and Strategy for Business Majors (BUSIPOL) dominated the Top 20 Global Performers list of GLO-BUS from July 25 to August 7. Created by McGraw Hill, GLO-BUS is an online business simulation game which focuses on competitive strategy.
Thirteen companies of students made it to the Top 20 Global Performers List. They competed against students of Boston University, Saint Peter’s College, Northeastern University, Capella University, Loyola University Chicago, University of Minnesota, and University of Maryland, among other schools.
The first place ranking was earned by the group dubbed Aspect. Members of the group were Gabriel Abes, Ben Fuentes, Camille Ibasco, Kristine Mangoba, Dianne Kristine Ong, and Zyra Mae Salvador. Their instructor for this school term is Urbano Velasco.


The second and third place rankings were also earned by BUSIPOL students. The EVOLUTION group composed of Cathlyn Kay Chug, Kristine Sy, Dedi Wiradnata, and Abigail Grace Wong took the second place. Third place was garnered by the Excellente group composed of Allen Ching, Marinelle Castro, Sheila Gregorio, Christian Serantes, Erika Valerio, and Julian Refuerzo. The EVOLUTION and Excellente groups are part of the classes of Rene Canlas and Velasco, respectively.


Meanwhile, eight groups which made it to the Top 20 are part of the class of Business Management Department Associate Professor Dr. Gloria Chavez.
Starting first term of this SY, the Business Management Department integrated simulation exercises in the BUSIPOL course requirements to serve as venue for the application of concepts and theories.


GLO-BUS is an online competition that allows teams of students from across the globe to run a digital camera business. Company operations parallel those of actual digital camera companies and compete in the global market, selling digital cameras in Europe, Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.

Topping-off ceremony at GE Building marks construction progress

TOPPING-OFF. CEREMONY. University officials and project contractors hold the topping-off ceremony of the 20-storey GE Building along Taft Avenue.

A topping-off ceremony marking the completion of the concrete framing of the DLSU-General Education/ College of Education/Asia-Pacific Center for Teacher’s Education (ACTED) Building was held on August 10. The 20-storey building is located along Taft Avenue and right in front of the University’s Enrique T. Razon Sports Complex.


The ceremony is a tradition observed in the construction industry when the highest structural point in the building construction has been completed. Present during the affair were DLSU System President Br. Armin Luistro FSC, DLSU-Manila Executive Vice President Dr. Carmelita Quebengco, and Assistant Vice President for Campus Development Engr. Aurellano De La Cruz Jr.


The event was also attended by the project contractors. They were Johnny Tan, main contractor; Arch. Philip Recto, designer; Engr. Rogelio Menguito, structural designer; Engr. Domingo Lagman, mechanical designer; and Jose Ramon Aliling, construction manager.
The P600-million structure is scheduled to be completed in June 2006. Covering a total area of 27,000 square meters, the building will be used for the University’s General Education program. It will house the CED and the ACTED.
