University to honor loyal faculty  | | GAWAD KALINGA MASS. DLSU System President Br. Armin Luistro FSC and Student Council President Army Padilla spearhead the Gawad Kalinga Mass held on August 8 at the Chapel of the Most Blessed Sacrament. | De La Salle University-Manila will honor service and faculty awardees during the Annual Faculty Recognition to be held on August 24, 12:45 p.m., at the William Shaw Theater. Leading the service honorees are Teresita Farrell and newly appointed DLSU-Manila President Emeritus Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC. They have served a term of 40 and 35 years, respectively. Farrell is currently the general manager of the De La Salle Credit Cooperative. She concurrently served as DLSU-Manila Finance director and assistant treasurer and DLSU System vice president for Finance from 1994-May 2004. She was likewise the treasurer of various System schools and affiliates from their respective inception until 2005. Br. Andrew served as president of the DLSU System for 17 years before his appointment as Department of Education, Culture, and Sports Secretary from 1998 to 2000. He is a member of the National Academy of Science and Technology and an Academician. The DLSU-Manila Board of Trustees recently granted the honorary title of president emeritus to him effective SY 2005-2006. During the event, the University will pay tribute to 70 faculty members who have served the institution for at least 10 years. Executive Vice President Dr. Carmelita Quebengco will deliver a tribute to the awardees. She and DLSU System President Br. Armin Luistro FSC will award the service honorees. The University will also recognize faculty members who have been promoted to new ranks. Four faculty members, namely, Dr. Leonila Abella of the Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Arnulfo Azcarraga of the Software Technology Department, Dr. Antonio Hila of the History Department, and Dr. Andres Winston Oreta of Civil Engineering will be awarded Full Professor status. New University Fellow Dr. Pag-asa Gaspillo, College of Engineering dean, will also be recognized during the program. Gaspillo is a recipient of the 2005 NAST-Hugh Greenwood Environmental Science Award. She won the award for her significant contributions to water and wastewater management. Retired members of the Society of Fellows will likewise be honored during the event. Vice President for Academics and Research Dr. Julius Maridable will lead the recognition of their significant contributions to the University and to the advancement of their specific fields. The University Fellows are those who have been conferred the honor in recognition of their distinguished teaching, research, and publications in their field of study and their meritorious service to the University.
