Chavez joins entrepreneurship training in US Dr. Gloria Chavez, associate professor of the Business Management Department, attended the Price-Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators (SEE). The event was held from May 31 to June 4 at Babson College, Wellesley, Massachusetts, USA. The Price-Babson SEE is a training program for entrepreneurship educators. Attendees included 65 academics and entrepreneurs from 32 institutions all over the world. The program required a team of an academic and an active entrepreneur as fellows. Chavez teamed up with RFM Corporation Corporate Export Division Vice President and General Manager Imelda Madarang, former undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry. Their team was sponsored by the newly created Philippine Center of Entrepreneurship (PCE), a flagship project of Jose Ma. Concepcion III, presidential consultant for entrepreneurship. In the US, she also visited the Arthur Blank Center for Entrepreneurship, Olin College, Wellesley College, Harvard Business School in Boston, Columbia University in New York and talked with the Director of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, a non-profit organization specializing in teaching entrepreneurship to young people from low-income communities. Lasallians honored in graduation rites De La Salle University-Manila honored its outstanding graduates during the 143rd Commencement Exercises at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center on June 18. Out of the 1,313 graduates for Term 3 and Summer of SY 2004-2005, nine students were selected by the Honors and Awards Committee to receive the Graduation Special Awards. Each showed excellent performances in academics and extra-curricular activities. Student Leadership Award recipients are Kristine Mae Cadoc (BS CS-IT), Arianne Vanessa Josephine Jimenez (AB-PLM), Star Scholar Wilfrido Kabiling (BS/MS IE), Cindy Saw (BS CSE), Jillian Sze (BS AE-MFI), and Aissa Mae Villanueva (BS/MS IE). This award is given to students who have ably balanced their academic studies with student activities. The Community Development Leadership Awardees are Sophia Marie Pagtakhan (BS-BIO) and Sze. The award recognizes outstanding civic-minded students who have contributed to the upliftment of their fellow Filipino through their tireless and selfless service. Meanwhile, Kabiling also received the Athletics Award, which honors student athletes who have consistently rendered outstanding performance in competitions as true Lasallian sportspersons. The same citation was given to Reylani Ardio (BS-BIO) and Frances Alexandra Sapinoso (BS-BIO). Ardio, Cadoc, and Kabiling also graduated cum laude. Young Talent. Elijah Castillo, lead child actor in Pepot Artista, introduces himself during the film’s DLSU-Manila screening. Members of the Lasallian community were invited to view the movie last June 16 at the Ariston Estrada Seminar Room. Written and directed by Department of Communication Chair Dr. Clodualdo del Mundo Jr., Pepot Artista is an official entry to the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. Organized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Cinemalaya is slated on June 12-17 at the CCP Little Theater.
